Everyone is aware of what American Football is; even kids practice this at school. From the word itself, it is an American game of Football that evolved from the sport of Rugby Football. It was first played on November 6, 1869, between Princeton and Rutgers, from then it has become the USA’s most renowned sport.

How to play the game?

American Football is a full-contact sport where the players prepare not only their body but their minds as well. The sport is all about running, the teams will either holding or pass the ball trying to reach their opponent’s goal area to score some points.

Takes place on a rectangular field, the game is consisting of 2 teams and both teams have 11 players. The field is huge, 110 meters long and 48.76 meters wide with goalposts place at each end of the field.

The ball used in American Football is not an ordinary ball; it’s a prolate spheroid or oval-shaped. Played in a 60minute, the game is divided into two halves of 30 minutes as you see in a professional tournament. With full physical contact and messy at its seems, player’s safety is the top priority, American football players are required to wear a football helmet and shoulder pads to minimize any injury.

Played in most countries like North America, Europe, and Japan, American Football has different methods of scoring.

American Football Scoring Methods

The main goal for the offense team is to touchdown. To attain this, a player must successfully carry the ball across the opposing team’s goal line or catch a pass the ball in the end zone. Once this happened while it’s on the player’s possession it is then scored a touchdown. The touchdown itself is worth 6 points. The team that scored the touchdown will be given the bonus of attaining one or two points which are called “extra-point conversion attempts”.

If the team desire to go for an extra two points, they’ll line up at the 2-yard line to attempt a run or passing of the ball in the end zone. If the trying team makes it, the team is then awarded 2 points. If they do not make it, an extra point is no longer awarded.

Another way of scoring for the team is Field Goals which are worth 3 points. A team in a fourth-down position might attempt to score in a field goal; this is when the team feels that their special team kicker is in a comfortable range of kicking the ball.

Aside from the scoring methods mentioned above, a team can also pick up two points by tackling the opponents that hold the ball at their end zone which is called the Safety.

With the immense popularity of this sport, the majority of people living in the United States make sure that they are watching every American Football tournament on the field or at home. It does not matter where as long as they are supporting their team during the match-awaited sports event.

Football or also known as Soccer in some parts of the world is the oldest sport in the world making it the most popular sport ever played in history. Many countries participate in the said game, tournaments like the Football World Cup, Euro Championship, Copa America and the African Cup of Nations take place. Well, domestically speaking some of the strongest leagues came from the following countries: England with English Premier League, Spain with La Liga, Italy with Serie A and, Germany with Bundesliga.

What is the Objective of the Game?

The main goal of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team in a 90minute time frame. The match is divided into two halves each with a 45minute game time. After the first half, players are given 15minutes break which is a rest period for half time, after that the game will resume.

The Players and Equipment in the game

 When it comes to players, each team has 11 players. It is made up of one goalkeeper and the rest are the outfield players. The pitch dimension of the field depends upon the ground but it’s commonly 120 yards long and 75 yards wide. On each pitch, there is a 6-yard box that is next to the goalmouth, an 18-yard box that surrounds the 6-yard box, and a center circle. Every half of the pitch has a similar image in terms of dimensions.

Generally, a football match needs a pitch and a football as the main equipment. In addition to that, players are required to wear a proper uniform like football boots, shin pads, and matching strips. As for the goalkeeper, they certainly wear padded gloves as they are the only players allowed to handle the ball of the game. Aside from having, 11 members, each team has its designated captain.

Football Scoring

To score in football/soccer, the ball must go into the opponent’s goal that the whole ball is by the line for a valid goal. Players can make a goal using any of their body parts as long as they are not using their hands, they can either use their arm, shoulder, or feet.

Winning this Popular Game

For the team to win, they should score more than their opposing team. Once the teams score the same after 90 minutes, the game will result in to draw and an extra time or a penalty shootout will decide the playing team’s fate.
